Mountain sneezeweed is a tall, late-blooming perennial topped with bright yellow, daisy-like flowers with distinctive drooping petals and a raised central disc, flowering from August into September when much of the garden is winding down. Found in moist meadows and seasonally wet ground, it’s a valuable late-season nectar source for bees, butterflies, moths, and beetles. Despite the name, it doesn’t cause sneezing when in flower – the name comes from historical use of its dried, powdered leaves as snuff. A great choice for the back of a moist meadow planting to carry pollinator interest into fall.
