Oceanspray is a tall, arching shrub known for its cascading plumes of creamy white flowers that blanket the branches in early to midsummer – a striking sight along dry to moist open forest edges and rocky slopes throughout the interior. The abundant blooms are a major nectar source for bees and other pollinators. Historically, its exceptionally hard wood – sometimes called ironwood – was used by First Nations to make digging sticks, arrow shafts, and other tools. A lovely, low-maintenance shrub for a woodland edge or naturalized hedgerow.
