Golden sedge is a low, spreading sedge that gets its name from the bright golden-orange seed capsules (perigynia) it produces in summer – easy to spot even from a distance. Growing about 15-30 cm tall, it forms loose patches in moist meadows, streambanks, and seasonally wet ground. It’s a useful, low-maintenance groundcover for damp spots in the garden and helps stabilize soil along water features, while its seeds provide food for songbirds.
