What We Found: Bees at KinSeed!
What an afternoon. On June 16th, a wonderful group of curious minds joined bee biologist Lincoln Best at KinSeed Ecologies for a few hours of bee watching — and the results were remarkable.
Linc has now identified the bees from the day, and the numbers speak for themselves: 22 bee species visiting 13 plants, with 39 documented interactions recorded for the BC Bee Atlas. From bumblebees to tiny sweat bees, mason bees to cuckoo bees, the nursery turned out to be a buzzing hub of native bee activity.
Woolly sunflower and Silverleaf phacelia were the standout favourites, each attracting eight or more species. But even the humble Worm-leaved stonecrop had its fans.
A huge thank you to Lincoln Best for his expertise, to everyone who came out. Every observation contributes to our understanding of BC’s native bees — and that matters.
If you missed the event, you can still support the BC Bee Atlas and cast your vote for BC’s Favourite Bee at bcnativebees.org/bcfavbee2026.
