Canadian butterweed is a native perennial with cheerful clusters of small, daisy-like yellow flowers held above a low rosette of foliage, one of the earlier bloomers in a moist meadow. Growing 20-50 cm tall, it favours damp meadows, streambanks, and open, moist ground. Its early-season flowers are a welcome nectar source for emerging bees and other pollinators, and it mixes well with sedges and grasses in a naturalized wet-meadow planting.
