Saskatoon (Amelanchier alnifolia), also known as serviceberry, is a resilient, multi-stemmed native shrub that typically grows 2 to 5 metres tall. It produces clusters of white flowers in early spring that support pollinators, followed by sweet, dark purple berries in summer. The berries are loved by birds and other wildlife, and are also prized by people for fresh eating, pies, jams, and preserves. Saskatoon has deep roots in Indigenous food and medicine traditions and is a cornerstone of many food forest plantings.

Cultivars are available, but our plants are grown from locally collected seed, preserving regional genetics. Hardy, drought-tolerant once established, and adaptable to sun or part shade, Saskatoon is a beautiful and productive addition to hedgerows, edible landscapes, and restoration projects.
